Matt: No, nothing special happened, the break just came naturally and when we felt the urge to play again we got the band going again.
2)- There’s new material ahead, an EP Vengeance… what we have to expect from this release, and what format will be available?
Matt: Yeah, we have a new EP called Vengeance that is out in late July. It will be available on 12” vinyl, digitally and CD and eventually also on tape. The songs on the EP is a mixture of two new songs and two old song we made in 2012. If you ask me I think it sounds the same as everything else we’ve done - there’s no new experimental stuff going on!
3)- some of the incomes coming from the new EP will go to Okra Project in support to Black Trans People does this choice has brought you some troubles? The metal community is sometime a little conservative…
Matt: No, basic human rights and equality has always been a fundamental thing in our lives.
4)- let’s talk about the graphical aspect? , who made the new cover art? Also, the Ghoul on your second record really remind us the old Simon Garth comic book (similar to the one that Anti-Cimex used) does this kind of stuff has influenced the graphical output of the band.
Matt: We had Nicky Rat doing the front cover (and some art for the inlay) this time. We’ve never done anything with an “external” artist before but working with Nicky was no problemo at all. Ghouls cover was made by a friend of ours and Under the Hammer cover was made by Inventor. The gravemannen/Tales of the zombie comics are cool but I don’t know if they’ve influenced us - ripping of that comic started as some sort of half joke/homage to Anti Cimex but then that shirt design got really popular and people wanted it so we’ve printed a couple of different variants of that now.
5) -please tell us 5 or more record that are mandatory for the Bastard Priest sound, with a brief description for each one.
Matt:
1. Master - Unreleased 1985 LP - for the rawness and simplicity
2. Grave - Into the grave - for the sheer brutality
3. Discharge - Why - for the energy
4. Entombed - Left hand path - for the perfect death metal
5. Sadistic Intent - Ancient Black Earth - for the darkness and evil
6)-the first record ended with a Bombanfall cover, so the punk influence in undeniable, also Sweden is a powerhouse of crazy punk stuff, do you like this kind of style?
Matt: Oh yes, we’re born and bred on punk and swedish punk in particular. Our teenage years was one long trip discovering the hidden treasures of swedish and foreign hardcore punk.
7)-what about live shows? There will ever be a live incarnation of Bastard Priest?
Matt: No, we’ve made an active decision not to play any live shows. The band is only me and Inventor and to get a full line up and running is simply too much work. We’ve decided to focus on recording and releasing music.
8)- there are some notable new bands that needs to be brought to light?
Matt: I’m not really in the loop with new bands anymore but some I’ve picked up in recent times that need a mention are - Impure, Venomous Skeleton and Skelethal.
