Fosso Della Carogna - Swamp Rehearsal 2024

0

-------

Behind the moniker Fosso della Carogna (the meaning is "carrion pit") lies a cult. A cult that has been terrorizing the Marche region of Italy for a few years and is now preparing for an explicit ritual: a Rehearsal Sal Tape recorded live. The cultists of this perverse doctrine are no strangers to these pages. Paolo, vocals and guitar, has already been featured here with his project NeroHazet. Alessio, on drums, has already played with Paolo in EternalNoirDoom, while the new addition to the lineup is Gio, on bass, making his debut with the band on this recording. The band distances itself from the fast-paced style that characterized the previous incarnations and projects of its members, shaping a sound influenced by bands like EyeHateGod, BuzzOven, IronMonkey, but still incorporating much faster, punk-driven moments when they decide speed must be the focal point of the battle. There are also clear black metal influences, particularly in the riff melodies that clearly echo the sound of Bergen. Paolo, the seasoned extreme vocalist, adopts a register similar to that of the second wave of black metal, with a high-pitched and acidic scream that, alongside lyrics entirely in Italian, paints folk horror scenarios that could be the soundtrack to the best film ever made by Pupi Avati. Unfortunately, in this demo, the windows of houses don’t laugh for shit. Fosso della Carogna decides to finalize its ritual with the help of a direct studio recording, real, unfiltered rehearsal tapes. Being so honest and showing their true face in a hypothetical live setting – one that has already taken place multiple times – the band has proven to be highly energized and ready to continue their discourse of sonic extremism, primitive fuzz death taken to the limit, and total negativity. Yet, it remains with a DIY ethic and aesthetic. On their Bandcamp, you’ll find kits to print your own tape and record over some ancient international pop tape you may have lying around. Think of a forgotten tape from the '90s with a pop star like Britney Spears or Spice Girls, for example. That said, it's a fertile period for slow music, whether doom, sludge, stoner, or 70s-style rivalries, but it’s hard to find a band that still upholds a DIY and punk ethos. Well, Fosso della Carogna succeeds in this endeavor, making sure that sludge returns to its punk origins. With this ouroboros moving its tail, we hope, either in the apocalypse or in a series of their excellent full-lengths.

OVÄSEN FRONTERA KOLLAPS -SELF MUTILATED MACHINE

0

Usually when we talk about new crust demos  we would mention the early 2000s is all that crusty invasion that was popular in those years where dread mohawks, doom patches and a lot of speed were popular at concerts, but in the case of OFK, it seems just to be back to the sound of the late 80s and that crossed all the 90s, raw as fuck crust core in the way DOOM meant it, noisy and with a guttural voice  violently bordering with  death-metal, one of those raw and filthy sounds that describe you a dark scenario of an industrial genocide, that genocide that happens every day and which we pretend is the best way to live, Ovasen Frontera Kollaps are the cries of those who suffer that extermination, internalize it and reject it, producing a clangor that can wake you up from that numbness and expose yourself to that misery , implementing a sound catharsis that leaves you empty but aware. This agglomeration of self-mutilation and negativity was set up and released on tape by Sentiero Futuro Prod, a new rampant label that is releasing in similar format many small similiar realities with a  punk soun but with different nuancesand  in more or less all its declinations, support and distort!

VENOMWOLF - INTERVIEW

0

1) Hi Duncan how are you? We stumbled into Venomwolf by chance, the mighty Costa from Iron Pegasus gave us a copy of the “Storm Riding Power” album as a bonus of package that was sent as present for Zan’s graduation,it was a good surprise and one hell of a record, so tell us more about the origin of this project, and how you devoted your life to the black\speed cult! Also how does it feel to be in the same record label of Sabbat,Metalucifer and Desaster?

Hails! I'm surviving about as well as I can in this plague-stricken world... Glad you like the record!Venomwolf started as a last-minute recording project. A band I was playing in kind of fell apart a few days before going into the studio, so I wrote the first EP in an evening just to not waste the studio time. I didn't plan on it being a super serious project, but then Cacophonous Records wanted to release the EP on tape, I got asked to play some gigs, those turned into more gigs and some bigger support slots, then as I was thinking of doing an album Iron Pegasus got in touch! As for being on the same label, I still can't quite believe it, haha! When Costa first emailed me I tried to remember where I knew the name from... then realised I knew it from my Desaster – Tyrants of the Netherworld CD, which never left my car! It's seriously cool to be on a label with such legendary bands, and to be connected in some small way to so many amazing records... It's a real honour to be a part of it. Aside from the big legendary names, there's some absolutely killer smaller bands also on the label. Eurynomos are probably my favourites, killer old sounding evil metal with the legendary Okkulto returning to the scene! Megatherion share a guitarist and bassist – they have Carnivore from Cruel Force on vocals and sound like Hellhammer, so what's not to like? Infernal Assault are killer, and Magnesium are another excellent Japanese band.

2) Venomwolf is a one man band,it seems that one single head is more focused in one musical direction and I think of acts such as Toxic Holocaust,Enforcer,Midnight,Sabire and of course the almighty Bathory, what made you choose the path of the solitary musicianship?

I never really set out to do everything myself, back when I was starting out! I started on the drums, then got myself a bass a few months later, and then a guitar a short while after that. I guess I've just never really been satisfied doing one thing – I love playing all the different instruments, all for different reasons, and they all lead me to be creative in different ways. I mostly write on the guitar, but I've written plenty of riffs on the bass, or had a drum beat in mind that I make ideas around.
It then became a neccessity for the first Venomwolf recording session, and I've just continued on like that. It makes things a lot easier for organising writing and recordings, that's for sure! I'm a sound engineer by trade, so I do all the recording myself as well – which makes things even easier to organise, haha!
Part of it as well is just not finding the right people. There's not many people into this kind of music around, especially in Scotland, and there's even less of them that play an instrument, who are interested in being a band, who have the time to commit, all that kind of thing. The two guys I have in the live band now are from the London and Newcastle areas, so it's not really a situation where we can practice together regularly, but it still works out. I send them all the songs and tabs, they learn them, we come together and it all fits!

3) Your music give us punky feelings (you know all that D-beat and feedback noise) and this is a zine with one foot into the punk universe and the othe into the metal hell! We got the mandatory punk question,do you like this kind of music? Is it an influence you? Metal archives says you played in a band called Sheer Ignorance.

I love punk. Specifically the d-beat and crust, I find a lot of earlier “traditional” punk pretty dull. For me, punk's all about being angry, and nothing captures that vibe better than d-beats! So naturally, it's a huge influence on me – mostly the UK82 bands like Discharge, The Varukers, GBH, and Chaos UK. Sacrilege and English Dogs need a special mention, as they've been a massive influence on the more recent stuff I've been writing.

Most of the metal bands that inspire me have a large punk influence anyway, and it just fits with how I play and write music. To me, the d-beat has always been the most energetic drum pattern – way more so than the more “metal” things like blastbeats or whatever. Simple parts played as fast and hard as possible, that's what it's all about!

4) And from the ramming speed let’s go into the abysmal slowness,it seems you played in bunch of doom metal bands (Atragon,Nest of Vipers), Doom Metal is often labeled as genre of its own,but we think is the root of the heavy metal genre and bands like Pentagram and St.Vitus shaped the sound in a very distintive way, what’s you vision about it?

That's going back a few years, haha! I got my start in bands playing doom, along with those  bands you mentioned I've had a few other projects over the years that never made it out the practice room. I got kind of burned out on the doom scene a few years ago, there was a bit of a wave in the UK of very generic sounding doom bands for a while. I'm fully aware that's a bit hypocritical, given that I'll listen to any Discharge/Motörhead/Bathory clone, but at least their songs are over quickly...

5) Give us 5 (or as many as you want) records that are mandatory for the  Venomwolf sound! Please give a brief description for each one.

Bathory – Bathory
To the surprise of absolutely no-one, this has to be my first pick. The most evil and creepy atmosphere, the too-fast tempos and playing, and Quorthon's possessed vocals, this album just rules in every way. The ultimate proof that it's not about the sound, the playing, or the technical nature of anything, it's about energy and conviction. I've been listening to this album for so many years now, and it still makes me want to raise hell and destroy everything when it comes on. Sacrifice is the best song ever.

Venom – Black Metal/Welcome to Hell
I can never pick a favourite between these two, so they're both here. Just absolutely unreal sounds on these records. I have to give a special mention to the Bloodlust single as well, that was actually the first Venom track I ever heard! Venom are the reason I like to release singles, it's good fun to work on smaller projects in between albums.

Bludwulf – Cryptic Revelations
A killer record from a criminally underrated band. The ultimate MPDS attitude and atmosphere! I can't recommend this album enough, if anyone is into the metalpunk sound at all this should be required listening.

Discharge – Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing
What can I even say about this? It's one of the greatest albums of all time. For such a basic concept it's got so much going on, the sound is just collossal, and the energy is unmatched, even all these years later. Essential.

Sacrilege – Behind the Realms of Madness
The perfect combination of metal riffs and punk energy. Some of the best riffs ever, furious vocals, and an overall sound of just absolute destruction. A huge influence on me. The main riff from The Closing Irony is the best riff of all time.

Darkthrone – Circle the Wagons
I'm including this as a sixth record because it changed everything for me – it was the first time I'd heard anything metalpunk! I was 16 when it came out, and I'd never heard anything like it. I already knew some black metal, and I'd heard some Darkthrone, but I didn't know about their more recent material bringing in the punk and speed metal elements. Needless to say, it ripped my face off when I first heard it!

6) We notice that few days ago,you blacked out your avatar for the blackout tuedasy in solidary with the protestor (adding maybe the most lovely hashtag ever #ACAB), is it not very common in the metal community to take a stand on this kind of topics you also donate part of your bandcamp income to the cause, kudos to you, does this stance gave you problems with you fanbase or similar?

I've not had any problems from my fanbase at all. Hopefully that's because they're all sensible people that acknowledge and oppose the problems in our society...

It's quite frustrating that this isn't a very common thing in the metal scene. There's been some movement towards making it more prominent recently, which is very encouraging, but it's still a problem. There's too much tolerance and enabling of hateful and disciminatory attitudes and behaviours in the scene. Black metal in particular is terrible for this. It's another reason why I like punk so much – as much as that scene's still not perfect, at least they tell Nazis where they can go... With black metal, you have the actual Nazis and racists, and then too many people who just look past it, because “it's just about the riffs” (also how come most of the Nazi bands don't even have any good riffs?), or “I can separate the artist from the art” or “I just leave politics out of it.” And these same people will then lose their minds when a black metal band has left-wing or antifascist themes, or dares to speak out about it. It's pretty disgusting how accepted this is, and how many bands get a pass for super shady behaviour and associations (one super popular band being the backing band for an NSBM project springs to mind...).

7) Stormriding power feature a fast as lighting Jaguar cover (which also released and interview in this blog) why did you choose this particular tune? NWOBHM had a wide range of different sounding band, from the melodic one to the most speedy ones? Which one are you favourites in this field? There is some forgotten gem from Scotland?

Quite simply, I chose it because it's an amazing song! The main riff is very punky as it is, so I thought it'd be fun to give it some d-beats and make it a bit rougher. I also had to solo more than I ever had before, so it was a nice challenge as well.

When it comes to NWOBHM, my favourite would probably be Cloven Hoof. The self-titled and A Sultan's Ransom are two of my favourites, absolutely killer stuff. Satan are amazing, definitely the best comeback of any of that scene! I love some of the early Tokyo Blade and Demon records. Ritual – Widow is another really cool album. Black Axe had a great single, Virtue were really good. Then there's the bands that were kind of outliers on the scene for being a bit nastier – Tank, Warfare, and of course VENOM!

I'm not too sure on the forgotten gems from Scotland – our main NWOBHM band would be the excellent Holocaust. I know there were others, but I've not heard enough! Our main forgotten gem here would probably be Iron Claw, but they predate the NWOBHM by a few years – they're well worth checking out though, total early Sabbath worship (I believe one of those guys is responsible for the earliest recording of Sabbath, a bootleg from when they were still called Earth)!

8) How about the lyrics,Tyrant’s Curse give us some distinct Howard\Lovecraft vibes are you into this kind of novels? What are your non musical influences? (let’s also talk about the wonderful artwork from the single Bring down the axe).

Howard is definitely an influence – Bring Down the Axe is roughly based off Conan the Barbarian, as are some of the new tracks I'm working on.

My influences are mostly in the realms of dark fantasy/sci-fi. Quite a few songs from Stormriding Power are based off parts of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Conan the Barbarian is a big influence. Mad Max is one, of course – see Chasing Bullets for that! There's also some more general stuff, like the obvious Lord of the Rings kind of thing (probably where the sword/weaponry obsession comes from...), Highlander, pretty much anything with swords and bloody war will do it for me! Witches, rituals, and magic are always there too, that's just the kind of stuff I like! The new album's got more songs about Conan the Barbarian, more Malazan, some Greek mythology, and some Warhammer Fantasy/40k things as well.

The artwork for Bring Down the Axe was done by Daniel Artgrinder, he's a killer tattoo artist based in Finland who does excellent metalpunk work. I got in touch, explained what I wanted, and he nailed it straight away.

9) Can you give us a overview on the Scottish scene and on bands that are worth to be mentioned!(if you want to throw some international bands are welcome too).

I'll keep this more to UK bands – I travel around the country a lot, so that lets me hear a lot of the bands from further away, and I just don't hear as many Scottish ones these days!

Grave Altar – we toured with these guys back in November. Totally ballistic nekrothrash, these guys are pretty much the UK's answer to Deathhammer/Aura Noir/Antichrist! Absolutely killer stuff, anyone who likes the old style of thrash needs to hear this band!

Dungeon – this is my live drummer Chris's main band. Filthy speed metal with a punked-up attitude. Their EP Purifying Fire is one of my favourite records. They're an absolute powerhouse live as well, touring with them is a great time!

Skyryder – my live bassist Andy plays drums for these guys (somehow I've ended up with three drummers in my band...). These guys play NWOBHM style heavy metal, it's fast, they shred, they rule.

Aggressive Perfector – speed/heavy metal with a total horror movie vibe. These guys are one of the best in the UK by a long shot, devastating live, and phenomenal on record. Everyone should check them out.

Inhuman Nature – thrash/hardcore from London. Like Iron Age but a bit more metal. They're great on record, but they're even better live, just absolutely crushing riffs.

The Vexed – drunken chaos metalpunk from York. They don't do that much, but they should, because they're great fun. Absolute maniacs!

Live Burial – my favourite current death metal band. I've been into these guys since their first demo, and they've just kept getting better through the years. Their new album Unending Futility is absolutely killer, it's everything you could want from death metal!

Night Fighter – a relatively new band from Glasgow, one-man black/speed metal. Inkulto and I have been in a few bands together over the years, I drummed for his d-beat band Göatshit, and he was the first live bassist for Venomwolf. Needless to say, he knows his stuff, and Night Fighter is the best thing he's done.

As for international bands...

Eurynomos – labelmates on Iron Pegasus, featuring the mighty Okkulto (ex-Desaster)! They've got a full album coming out at the end of August, which I'm very excited about. They kill the old way!

Ewig Frost – true wasteland warriors from Vienna, I've been a fan of these guys for a long time. Mötorpunk with a bit of a crusty black metal edge, they've got a new album coming, and I can't wait to hear it!

10) How did you shaped the Venomwolf sound? The flyier speaks about “non triggered drums” what kinds of equipment and production did you used? Joel Grind did an excellent work with the sound.

Haha, this is something I can go on about all day...

I want the sound of Venomwolf to be as real and genuine as possible. I don't use any digital or virtual amps, I don't trigger any drums or use machines, and I don't make any edits that change what I actually played. So many of my favourite albums have small mistakes (or large ones, like Bathory...) and imperfections that make them sound more human and real, and I don't want to take that away from my own music. If I'm going to be making old-school sounding records, it should sound old-school! It's also important that every instrument is played for real on the records. I could just use a drum machine, but they never sound as good, and I find it really takes away from the feel of the old sound.

As for more specific equipment, it's all pretty straightforward. I've got a cheap old Pearl drum kit, and I've taken off the resonant heads for the 80s box sound. I use Paiste Alpha cymbals, and a Pearl Sensitone snare. For the bass, it's a Fender Jazz into a Hartke amp and cab. I get my bass distortion from a Boss DF-2 pedal, which I believe is from 1983. My guitar setup has changed a little over the years, I borrowed quite a lot of gear for the Stormriding Power record. Now though, it's a BC Rich Warlock with Dimarzio Super Distortions, which runs through a Turbo Tubescreamer into my Marshall JCM2000. I've got a Boss Chorus Ensemble and an EHX Cathedral in the effects loop – the chorus is always on live. That all goes into a 1991 Marshall 4x12 cab. For all the recordings so far, and live shows, my vocals go through my SM58.

For the Buried Alive cover on the Bring Down the Axe single, I used an effects pedal that used to belong to Mantas himself! My pal that drives us on tour is a family friend of Mantas, and happens to own one of his old pedals, which still has all his settings saved, and he was kind enough to let me use it for the Venom cover!

As for production, I take a very old-school approach. I try to mix everything as organically as possible, I try not to spend too much time on things, and I generally want to keep everything feeling as real and old-school as possible. So, loud guitars, bulldozer bass, boxy drums, and vocals with a ton of delay on them! I hate the attitude that is very common these days where people will work on a mix for a single song for weeks or months on end, constantly making minute adjustments, and agonising over every tiny little detail. How many classic albums were recorded and mixed in the shortest time possible?

Joel Grind was the natural choice for mastering the record, because who else knows this kind of music that well? He's a great dude, super easy to work with.

11) Ok, the torture’s over. Free-space!

Thanks for the questions, and thanks to anyone who's actually read this far! Hopefully this will have been interesting, I know I tend to ramble on a bit...

STIGMATIZED - ... A WALL OF FALSENESS

0

Stigmatized from Cagliari return, composed for 2/5 by (Francesco and Lorenzo vocals and drums), Leonardo (Last Breath), Marco (Dawnbringer) and Matteo (Quercia/Decieved).
Those guys are active in the Sardinian scene both as musicians and as scenesters, after the demo stigmatized corpses.
This is the lightning-fast debut of this grindcore crusher with death metal influeces that closely resembles acts such as Rotten Sound, Corey, Terrorizer and without forgetting the blunt punk side of grindcore with Yacopasae and early Disfear.
15 minutes of obscene  brutal and ruthless violence where the storming rhythmical bursts alternates spamodically in all possible variations of musical brutality.
There is also room for a gloomy and almost atmospheric track (with atmospheric we do not mean elevator music but more the right soundtrack for moving in the darkness chased by a Xenomorph) in Parasitic evolution which then outburst into the most punk track of the record Apathy assisted in the vocal assault by the veteran Ciuffo (Cotard + Ogu Malu, but in the past Speranza Morta, GAP, Full Of Hatred), a 15 min of savagey that for now have only been released in digital format but would deserve a label to print a 7 "/tape as happens to so many groups of this kind at different latitudes but the neighbor's grass is always greener and we look too often abroad when groups like this have nothing to envy to more celebrated realities.(EDIT: is out on CD,get it while supplies last)

MOTRON - WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN?

0

Spiccano una selvaggia cover dei Nabat e un rifacimento più o meno esplicito di "If you're only in it for the the music" degli ENT, che diventa "If you're only in it for the lyrics"!

-

In the early 2000s there was a plague, the so-called "Yersinia Crustis". The streets were full of lifeless bodies and those who survived remained mutated, protrusions like tentacles instead of hair, steel in their faces and completely black clothing were the characteristics of a new species, which nourished only with speed and alcohol, dedicated itself to creating the infernal noise called crust-core.
Nowadays the infection seems to be contained and there is no longer such an high number of mutants, but the risk of moderate upsurge is always around the corner and this is the case.
The Motrons are a tribe of mutant crustpunx that takes its name from the motron motorcycle, surviving the virus and devoting themselves to the cult of noise by playing a very violent Mangel DBeat son of cult acts such as ENT, Disgust, Doom, Hiatus and Black Uniforms, without forgetting Motorhead r'n'r style, which is the seed of all this discomfort.
These tribal songs of war against the established society have been printed on  LP that bears the name of "Who'll Stop The Rain" and fully photographs the post-apocaliptic reality of these mutated subjects, including peer, petrol, boots, mohawks and dreadlocks!
Made for fans of guttural voices and essential riffs and, of course, the most important punk rhythm of all.
A wild cover by Nabat and a more or less explicit makeover of  "If you're only in it for the music" by ENT that becomes "If you're only in it for the lyrics"!
A powerful record that brings back to a style no many bands play anymore.

RATS OF SOCIETY + ABDUCTION + A.S.S. - Salvini punx fuck off

0

Extreme 3 ways split:

RATS OF SOCIETY: from the Milan area, a real gentlemen club for the city of mode and nightlife; in fact they play the filthiest grindcrust ever, inspired by Agathocles, Dechecharge and so on. They gonna thrash your house and shit on the carpet, but... hey, that's grind core! If you're into noisecore that's for you, for all the others: fuck off and we hope they will thrash your house for real!

ABDUCTION: thrash metal from the THC galaxy! This bunch xenomorphic bangers will melt your face with two tracks of neck-breaking speed. "Toxic Avenger Attack" is an hymn to Troma and "Pleasure to Grill" is the perfect soundtrack to grill the fuck out. If you're into Hirax, Municipal Waste and Nuclear Assault, that's the starter of one hell of a full-lenght. So, labels: contact them! Abduction may not destroy your home but watch out for the anal probes and hide all your booze and weed!

A.S.S (Anal Satan's Slave): for those guys, extreme metal starts with Sarcofago and ends with Nunslaughter. Filthy thrash-black with the only aim to offend Jesus Christ! Blasphemy+Speed=TNT. A real good start with A.S.S. Your house is probably safe but their presence or their music will turn holy water into piss instantly, forwarned is forearmed!

Herida Profunda + HellBastard - Split

0

HERE AND NOW records

One Hell of a Split!
Herida Profunda: heavy and breathtaking grind crust! Think of a hybrid between the latest Napalm Death and the earlyest Entombed or a D-Beat version of Terrorizer! Fast as Fuck, heavy as concrete alternating fast paced and d-beat rythms with slow breakdowns. This side shreds and they are good as the heavyweights in the other side of the split. If you love fast politicized noise (antifa, anticop, anticircus and anticapitalism) that's the band you need! Brutal, but with a brain.
HellBastard: a true legend on this blog! Straigh outta 1985, the band who released the mythological demo "ripper crust" (which gave the name to genre itself), the sound is way more metallic than the past releases, with a lot of death metal riffs both aggressive and "melodic", aniway facemelting stuff, played with raw-power and style. Even if the metal sound took over the punk attitude still remains in fact there's never a dul moment. Those veterans knows how to rock really good. Nice anticapitalistic lyrics.
This split EP was out both in CD and PICTURE DISK for the followings labels:
Be sure to get your copy, it shreds!

Negro + Eternal Noire Doom - Split 2016

0

Split tutto italiano!

----

An HC/GRIND split from Italy!
Negro HC from Fano (home of Un Quarto Morto and Diorreah) open the hostility with pissed off, negative and fast as fuck italian-style hc. They sound like if Impact and Arturo had a bastard son. Full throttle raw agression and total negativity drenched lyrics are the formula that Negro hc use to express their rage. Catch 'em live, we are sure they rock! Recommended to the old school addicted!
Eternal Noire Doom comes form Fermo and they're into the noisy Grind/Crust inspired by act like doom but also from "modern" stuff like Nails they also have sludgy/stench tendencies and we think that with a proper and "fatter" sound this would become one hell of a band. This side of this split the roughest side of the band that fits better in solit EP! If you're into hc and grind give'em a chance.

Multinational Corporations - Jamat-al-Maut

0

-----

The Pakistanese Fist of Fury!
This grindcore combo named Multinational Corporations (ok, if you don't know the band that these guys are quoting and you listen to grindcore, you won a slap in the face) open the hostility with 9 tracks of noisy grin/\crust heavily influenced by act like Assuck and Early-Napalm Death.
They have all the elements that a classic grind band SHOULD have: killer speed and enraged growls (yeah real screams not the fucking pig squeal shit) and crazy distortion. This work is pure scholastic grind core but it deserve support for the following reasons:
1) yes, is the same old noise, but who fucking cares is done at it's best, is well recorder and played without sacrificing the rawness, give it a try;
2) thes guys are from Pakistan. I mean,P-A-K-I-S-T-A-N not from Birmingham or Richmond, but from a place where the whole thing of extreme music is not  certainly easy to carry on.
So horns up for MxCx and grind on!

AGENT PATOGEN - EACH TO TAKE HIS CROSS

0

Recensione a cura di Valerio One Day in Fukushima

Avanti tutta!

-----

Review by Valerio from One Day in Fukushima

My first review is about “Each the Cross”, an album from the spanish band Agent Patogen.
They play deathgrind mixed with crust punk that reminds to me the first Napalm Death that meets Disrupt.
They sound evil and impetuous, with raw vocals and evocative titles like “Isolation, a solution against suffering”.
In short, I can say that “Each To Take His Cross” is a simple but pretty valid work, reccomended to the grindcore maniax!

REPRESSIONE - FUOCO

0

----

Repressione is an Italian combo hailing from Bologna which plays a lethal mix of punk hardcore d-beat devoted to Contrasto and Anti Cimex with strong political lyrics about repression and police brutality.
This release is completely DIY and recorded at VillaPunk squat.
10 tracks that delivers a total punk assault always between melody and sheer brutality. Awesome cover of a Wretched classic.
If you are into d-beat, this one is for you!

CANCER SPREADING INTERVIEW (ENGL)

1

INTERVISTA IN ITALIANO: LINK

1) Cancer Spreading is a really active and prolific band, so we can skip the same old introduction. Let's just say that you play some monolithic stench-core influencend by early Earache/ Peaceville noise and extreme metal (if you don't think the same, just correct me). The band has made al lot of demos and EPs, so where are you heading now?
Hi, I'm Gabri (vocals) the line up is made by: Merlo (vocals + guitar), Japa (guitar), Otta (drums) e Matteino (bass). The description fits perfectly, so I will not add anything. We are currently waiting Neaderthal Records to release our brand new LP "Ghastly Visions" and we are also composing new stuff. We haven't planned any gig in the next months, but more plans for the 2016 will be revealed when the time is right.

2) Your Facebook page points Modena-Bologna as the place where you live, I don't know anything about Modena. Tell us about this city and its scene, collectives etc. How it is to live there?
The only influence that our city had on Cancer Spreading is that the sleazy atmosphere that our streets give made our attitude and sound so negative... At least for what concern me. There are a lot of great bands and some spaces but no matter what I will keep on hating Modena.

3) Cancer Spreading toured a lot, even outside the borders of Italy: how it was? What differences did you found between your places and abroad? Can you give some advices to a band that is approaching the tour for the first time?

Yes, in those last years we have been lucky enough to make a good number of tours around Europe. The main reason in my opinion is that our genre is more appreciated in other country rather than in Italy. There are a lot of differences, but the main one is that is it more simple to get in touch with bands like ours, in Germany there's al lot of places where you can organize a gig: squats, youth centers or even pubs managed by punx collectives. As suggestions: I really don't know... Dont' have great expectations (if you're playing on a monday night in a god forgotten country of eastern Europe, you can't expect a shitload of people... while it can happen), also you have to get used to the shit food cause is always like that.

4) Cancer Spreading had several splits and EPs with italian bands (Children of Technology, to name one) and foreign bands (like Fatum or Last Legion Alive). How do you work for a split release? You write ad hoc material for the format that you choosed? Beside the friendship with a band, there are some musical requirment for having a split with you?
Yes, when we put out a split 7" or 12" with another band we try to write more songs with the right lenght for the format. No particular musical requirment (I always thought that the cooler splits are the one with bands of different kinds). Cleary we have to like the band every time, our splits are born from the friendship with the other bands.

5) The layout and the cover of your records are always cool as hell and match totally with your sound. Do you made it by yourselves or are there some other artists involved? The cover art are linked to the lyrics or it just serve a pourpose?
Thanks. We always try to look after the layouts as much as we look after the music. Is an aspect that in my opinion have not to be ignored. I've always found "incomplete" good records with shitty artworks; music is the most important aspect for sure, but artwork are a powerful way to communicate something. Our first logo has been done by Merlo but, beside that, we never did our artworks by ourselves: several friends had done it like Geno (that, back in the days, was a squatter in Villa Panico and organized a lot of our gigs there and also made tattoos on some of us), the last artworks are made by Stiv of Visions of War and Klaudiusz Witckzack, our friends too and the right guys to pen our sick imaginery. Beside the covers, I always assembled the layouts by myself.

6) In one of the label of your split EPs (I think is the split with Cruel Storm) you used a picture taken from Kentaro Miura's Berserk. Are there some other media (movies, comics, books...) that are part of the CS imaginery?
It wasn't from the Cruel Storm's split. I started to put images taken from Berserk from the split with Drunkards. I've always used it because I've always been a die hard fan of the saga (expecially the first part of the comic), it reflects the nihilistic and deviated spirit of  CS. I'm really inspired by any kind of media, expecially for what concern the ideological background, the influences are really a lot, aniway, anything that is in our mood ... We always used movie as intro from movies like: Blood Sucking Freaks, The Beyond, Salò, Mouth of Madness, The Final Darkness, Carnival of Souls in Ghastly Visions. We also used a sample from an average little man from Monicelli, which is not an horror movie but it fits with our views.
Same goes for books since the first 7" with COT, we used as commetary to our lyrics parts of the bible (for the book of Jacob). The upcoming LP will feature some sentences from Diary of a Drug Friend by Alesteir Crowley.
Speaking of comics, is used only Berserk. I'm really attached to it, I grew up reading it.
As you can see, there's a lot of different art that influence us, I think that there's a common thread between those arts.
We hope that our listeners understand it.

7. Tell us five or more records that you consider mandatory.
This is difficult, I think every member you could give a different answer...
I try to name 5 that were big influences for Cancer Spreading.
  1. Deviated Instinct: "Welcome To The Orgy" and "Terminal Filth Stenchcore" demo. In these LPs, for us, Deviated Instinct were at the peak, total filth never unmatched. Fundamental to our sound.
  2. Amebix: "Arise!". Another undefeated masterpiece. I think there's no need for introductions. Personally I've always been a fan of the EP "No Sanctuary" and "Winter", because they are more sick ... but for Cancer Spreading I think Arise it's fine.
  3. Genital Deformities: "Shag Nasty Oi!". Unrecognized English Death Metal / Crust / Stenchcore from 80s. Nobody has ever recognized them, but we have them always worshiped and they are a big influence too for our sound.
  4. Bolt Thrower: "Cenotaph". Another huge influence, especially for our period "Death Crust" (Age Of Desolation / split 7 "with Black Trinity / Suffering). I think it is easily recognizable in many of our pieces, and I chose this EP rather than others just because it's the one with the most pieces raw.
  5. Coffins: "Sacrifice To Evil Spirit" demo. Though not released too many years ago, we really consumed this demo at the time of the formation of Cancer Spreading (2006/2007). I believe that in this case also influences within some of our pieces are obvious. Amazing group however, I am continuing to follow them and take almost everything they do go out.
8) Have you got any side projects?
I and Japa (one of the two guitarists), until recently played in the Black Temple Below, ultrafilhty and dark doom-sludge; unfortunately, the group has recently suspended the activities. I also sing in Terror Firmer (Grindcore) and Gravesite (Death Metal).
Japa also played in Campus Stermini but I think they are not in business anymore ...
Merlo played in Axis Of Desolation, stenchcore band a-la Deviated Instinct. Even they unfortunately broke up.
Matteino however also plays in Stasis, group Crust / Metal with members of Gravesite, Repulsione, Haemophagus and other groups in 1000. I recommend them, really cool group.

9) You shared the stage with metal bands like Fingernails and Bunker 66, back in the days it seems strange for punk and metal bands to get along, is it still like this?
There are still differences, unfortunately they are many. Pretty much all of us have always listened to metal beside of punk (and also other genres) and so there has always seemed quite normal to incorporate influences of this kind ... But I'll tell you that both sides are full of barriers towards each other. Human beings belong to any type of front really like quarrel about bullshits, because of the small differences with the other sides rather than to try to appreciate what you have in common. The closed-mindedness is a bad thing. Fortunately there are people who go above and beyond all this, we have many friends and "fans" in the metal scene and we often played and collaborated with metal bands. I sing in a death metal band, for example.

10) It seems that nothing is left to chance. How did you shaped the sound through time? Is there any peculiar equipment or effect?
No peculiar effects or equipment, we are poor. We can't afford it. I agree with you. We know clearly how a CS release have to sound. Through the years we downtuned our guitars more and more and we got that rancid and doughy sound.

11) Famous last words and thank you for getting through this boring interview.
Thanx a lot for the interview, it wasn't boring... We hope that the "Ghastly visions" LP will be out soon, is probably the best stuff we ever recorded 'till now....

INTERVISTA AI CANCER SPREADING (ITA)

0

 ENGLISH VERSION HERE: LINK

  1. Deviated Instinct: “Welcome To The Orgy” e “Terminal Filth Stenchcore” demo. In questi dischi per noi i Deviated Instinct erano all'apice, marciume totale mai ineguagliato. Fondamentali per la nostra formazione.
  2. Amebix “Arise!”.
  5. Coffins “Sacrifice To Evil Spirit” demo.

Avete prestato attenzione a particolari effetti o equipaggiamento?
No, particolari effetti o equipaggiamento direi proprio di no. Siamo poveri, non possiamo permettercelo ahah.
