PANKHURST - THE VOTE

L'America che ti spiazza è rappresentata dai Pankhurst, all'esordio con l'EP "The Vote" perché, se dagli USA siamo abituati ad una violenza sonora consistente, qua è tutto il contrario: un punk rock melodico, debitore certamente dei Bad Religion ma anche dei primi R.E.M., per dirne una.
Pezzi catchy e leggeri che non sfigurerebbero in radio, ma allora cosa spiazza dei Pankhurst?
Esattamente come alla musica violenta gli States ci hanno abituato a uno stile di vita capitalista, alle armi libere,al ku-klux klan e alla corsa alla guerra per il profitto. Liricamente la band è l'esatto contrario dell'american way of life, e si scaglia contro il razzismo istituzionale di Trump, contro il suo muro, contro il sessismo imperante e le religioni organizzate. Tematiche che raramente vengono trattate dal punk più leggero, non ci si poteva aspettare altro da chi prende il nome da Emmeline Pankhusrt leader, suffraggetta e femminista di spicco.
Certamente un ascolto per chi ha la mente più aperta e l'orecchio più incline alla melodia, ma pollice in alto per il coraggio.

This one of those band that will always go against the grain!
The name is Pankhurst and with the debut  EP "The Vote" are the opposite of the usual ultraviolent american punk band, delivering a slab of melodic punk rock certainly influenced by Bad Religion but even from the early R.E.M., just to say one name.
Catchy and poppy song that would not disfigure in a radio airplay, but what's the ace in the hole of Pankhurst?
Just as with violent music, the U.S.A. have accustomed the world to their capitalist lifestyle, to free weapons, to the ku-klux klan and to the warfare for profit politics. Lyrically the band is the exact opposite of the American way of life, and lashes out against Trump's institutional racism and against his wall, against prevailing sexism and organized religions, issues that are rarely treated by the melodic punk scene, but with a name took from Emmeline Pankhurst, a suffragette leader and femminst you can expect nothing but this kind of lyrics.
Certainly a record for those with open mind and ears but thumbs up for courage.

Spaventapassere - L'importante è sborrare

Da queste parti è cosa nota che odiamo il punk-rock quasi quanto il RAC (ma comunque meno del metalcore). In questo caso però non potevamo non dare spazio ad un messaggio che è universale e veriterio: l'importante è sborrare; chiunque affermi il contrario vi mente ed è contro il nuovo che avanza!
Parlando di musica, questi quattro ragazzi riminesi suonano un punk italiano ultramelodico, pieno di assolini e  whowhwowhow che se avete all-stars di colori improbabili e maglie dei NOFX con scritto punkers saranno i vostri compagni di canne e birretta (a tal proposito: Fat Mike muori anzichè prendere a calci i fan)!
C'è da dire che comunque tutto suona molto compatto, non è per niente registrato male e la band sa fare il suo sporco lavoro.
Il pezzo forte sono però i testi ultra demenziali: si va dalle sborrate della title track ai bestemmioni di I Wanna Bethlemme, per fan di Persiana Jones e Derozer.
Tutto sommato piacevoli, ottimi se vi piace il genere; è uscito anche in Tape.

2) because "l'importante è sborrare" means "the only important thing is to cum" which is is a giant truth and who says the opposite is against the ongoing revolution.
Speaking about music, this is bubble-gum catchy punk rock full of soloing and whohwowhohwohwohwo singalongs if you cant live without your NOFX shirt (ehi, Fat Mike what about stop kicking your fans in the face and do something more insteresting perhaps...die).
If you're into it and you're throwing a party with weed and beer cranck it up.

DERANGED - DISEASE

Tornano a farsi sentire i cagliaritani Deranged, che erano stati già stati ospitati su queste pagine con il loro demo d’esordio “Spit Out”.

Arrivati alla prima fatica sulla lunga distanza (che contiene 10 tracce), ci propongono il loro street punk abbastanza melodico ma pur sempre diretto.

Questa la volta la registazione, il mix e il mastering sono stati affidati al buon Federico Cocco (lo trovate dietro le pelli di K'e k'em e Mr.Murrungio e alla chitarra in Brossa e A.F.D.A.) che, avendo già registrato svariati lavori per tante band sarde, risulta essere una garanzia, infatti il suono generale di questo disco ne ha indubbiamente guadagnato alla grande!

Rispetto alla demo, questo lavoro risulta meglio eseguito e molto più compatto. 
Si ripresentano episodi già editi (Holy Knife e Monkey Ride, se non sbaglio) che risultano più tirati e rinvigoriti. A fare da padrone però sono le nuove tracce come “Unnamed” e “Jimmy is gone” la prima classica anthem da cantare sotto il palco dove vengono fuori certe influenze Rancid che di certo non sono aliene alla band, la seconda meno tirata e più r'n'r che secondo me è il pezzo migliore dell’album e vedrei bene la band proseguire su questa strada (pezzi magari meno veloci ma più “catchy” senza però perdere l'impeto punk che li contraddistingue)!

Ottimo anche il lavoro svolto da Fabry (voce + chitarra) con i disegni che ci sono nel booklet e Nello (basso) per le grafiche molto accattivanti.

La band cresce determinata e sembra divertirsi con quello che fa, ovvero uno scanzonato punk-rock, fatto di pogo, salette umide, colletta birra e capelli colorati, ma soprattutto voglia di evadere e divertirsi; se siete dello stesso avviso penso che questi 4 punx cagliaritani saranno dei vostri… Non escludo poi una svolta o evoluzione nel gruppo perché già dalla prima demo mi sembra che ci sia stato un grande passo avanti.

I ragazzi hanno deciso di condividere solo una traccia di questo lavoro, scelta opinabile per qualcuno, ma personale, del resto mi sembra che il cd costi una cosa come cinque euro: quanto un fottuto pacchetto di sigarette quindi, non per fare il retorico, ma comprate sto cazzo di cd e supportate l'underground! Le prove, le registrazioni, le corde di chitarra, la benzina non si pagano da soli: prendetevi qualche ciddi/vinile/tape in più!

Second round for the Cagliari street-punx crew DERANGED, if you follow this blog you probably caught their first demo “Spit out” on this pages.

This time is a full length (10 bloody tracks folks!) and is recorded by Federico Cocco (skin basher of K'e K'em and Mr.Murrungio and guitar player in Brossa and A.F.D.A.) that has recorded many Sardinian DIY bands from the area of Cagliari and is really skilled behind the mixer.

This time the band show a proper and stronger sound, what kind of sound?

Some kind of melodic street punk/punk rock with uptempo drumming an catchy choruses!

Featuring fast punk anthems like “Unnamed” and r'n'rlish tunes like “Jimmy is gone” (the best track of the cd for me and I truly believe that the band got to keep on writing stuff like this) that are less fast but catchy, without corrupt the punk side of the matter!

The artwork of the cd has been drawn by Fabry (vox + guitar) and the graphic work by Nello (bass guitar) and is a very good job!

This band seems enjoy what they do, A.K.A. a light-hearted punk-rock made of pogo, sloppy rehearsal rooms, getting together money for the beer and colored mohawks.

If you want to join the party, I’m sure that these 4 punx are in and I do not exclude some kind of evolution for the future releases because this cd is really one step forward compared to demo.

The band have chosen to give for free just one song, questionable choice for someone, but if I remember well this CD costs no more than 5 euros, less tha cigarettes (at least here), so don’t be a dick and buy it, DIY bands needs to be helped: rehearsal, recording, guitar strings and gasoline unfortunately requires money, so get some more CD's/vinyls/tapes!
