Dietro il moniker Fosso della Carogna si cela un culto. Un culto che da qualche anno semina il terrore nelle Marche e che, solo ora, si prepara a un rituale esplicito: una Rehearsal Tape registrata in presa diretta. I cultisti di questa perversa dottrina non sono estranei a queste pagine. Paolo, voce e chitarra, è già passato di qui con il suo progetto NeroHazet; Alessio, alla batteria, ha già suonato con Paolo negli EternalNoirDoom, mentre la novità nella formazione è Gio, al basso, che debutta con il gruppo proprio in questa registrazione. La band si distacca dal velocismo che ha contraddistinto le precedenti incarnazioni e progetti dei membri e delinea un suono debitore di band come EyeHateGod, BuzzOven, IronMonkey, senza però dimenticarsi degli inserti molto più up-tempo e punk, quando decidono che la velocità deve essere il fulcro dell'attenzione. Sono anche evidenti le influenze black metal, visibili nelle melodie dei riff che richiamano sicuramente il suono di Bergen. Paolo, vocalist estremo e ormai rodato, opta per un registro molto simile a quello della seconda ondata del black metal, uno screaming acuto e acido che, insieme ai testi interamente in italiano, dipinge scenari folk horror che sembrano la colonna sonora del miglior film mai girato da Pupi Avati. Peccato che, in questa demo, le finestre delle case non ridano nemmeno per il cazzo. Il Fosso della Carogna decide di finalizzare il suo rituale con l'ausilio di una presa diretta in studio, delle vere e proprie prove registrate. Essendo così onestə e mostrando quella che è la loro faccia, in un ipotetico live – che si è già svolto più e più volte – la band ha dimostrato di essere molto carica e pronta a portare avanti un discorso di oltranzismo sonoro, primitivo fuzz della morte al parossismo e alla negatività totale. Ma sempre con un'etica e un'estetica DIY. Sul loro Bandcamp troverete infatti dei kit per stampare la vostra cassetta e registrare sopra qualche dannatissima tape di Biagio Antonacci sopravvissuta dagli anni '90. Detto questo, è un periodo fertile per la musica lenta, che sia doom, sludge, stoner o rivalismo settantiano, ma difficilmente si trova una band che continua ad avere un'etica DIY e punk. Ebbene, Fosso della Carogna riesce in questa impresa, facendo sì che lo sludge ritorni alle sue origini punk. Con questo ouroboros che muove la coda speriamo nell'apocalisse, o almeno in una serie di loro ottimi full-length.

Behind the moniker Fosso della Carogna (the meaning is "carrion pit") lies a cult. A cult that has been terrorizing the Marche region of Italy for a few years and is now preparing for an explicit ritual: a Rehearsal Sal Tape recorded live. The cultists of this perverse doctrine are no strangers to these pages. Paolo, vocals and guitar, has already been featured here with his project NeroHazet. Alessio, on drums, has already played with Paolo in EternalNoirDoom, while the new addition to the lineup is Gio, on bass, making his debut with the band on this recording. The band distances itself from the fast-paced style that characterized the previous incarnations and projects of its members, shaping a sound influenced by bands like EyeHateGod, BuzzOven, IronMonkey, but still incorporating much faster, punk-driven moments when they decide speed must be the focal point of the battle. There are also clear black metal influences, particularly in the riff melodies that clearly echo the sound of Bergen. Paolo, the seasoned extreme vocalist, adopts a register similar to that of the second wave of black metal, with a high-pitched and acidic scream that, alongside lyrics entirely in Italian, paints folk horror scenarios that could be the soundtrack to the best film ever made by Pupi Avati. Unfortunately, in this demo, the windows of houses don’t laugh for shit. Fosso della Carogna decides to finalize its ritual with the help of a direct studio recording, real, unfiltered rehearsal tapes. Being so honest and showing their true face in a hypothetical live setting – one that has already taken place multiple times – the band has proven to be highly energized and ready to continue their discourse of sonic extremism, primitive fuzz death taken to the limit, and total negativity. Yet, it remains with a DIY ethic and aesthetic. On their Bandcamp, you’ll find kits to print your own tape and record over some ancient international pop tape you may have lying around. Think of a forgotten tape from the '90s with a pop star like Britney Spears or Spice Girls, for example. That said, it's a fertile period for slow music, whether doom, sludge, stoner, or 70s-style rivalries, but it’s hard to find a band that still upholds a DIY and punk ethos. Well, Fosso della Carogna succeeds in this endeavor, making sure that sludge returns to its punk origins. With this ouroboros moving its tail, we hope, either in the apocalypse or in a series of their excellent full-lengths.
