Mille sono le cause che il punk ha sempre tenuto vicino a sé. Mille sono le declinazioni musicali che questo genere porta con sé. E mille sono i mondi possibili che ci descrivono gli IntoTheBaobab.
Il baobab, di per sé, è un albero enorme. Germoglia e si insedia in questi mille mondi possibili. Ma questa volta il gruppo emiliano, nato a Medicina ma con componenti sparsi nel bolognese, si è fatto attendere tantissimo dal già pluriamato Verdi Acidi Pensieri. E ci ritroviamo davanti a una band che ha sicuramente capito che l’idea di unicità del punk non è soltanto un vessillo da portare avanti a parole.
Lo traduce, infatti, come solo le band nate in provincia sanno fare: sbattendosene altamente di quali intersezioni siano "vietate" nel creare un disco punk. Ed è proprio questo che conferisce agli IntoTheBaobab la loro patina di personalità. Da alcuni difficilmente digeribile, da altri difficilmente dimenticabile.
Se un punk stradaiolo si fa spazio in canzoni come Occhio al Cranio - dove troviamo anche un featuring di Steno dei Nabat - e resta più incasellabile in un filone punk, pezzi come La Luna flirtano in modo mellifluo e sfumato con tutto ciò che è New Wave, Goth e Synth Punk. Le tastiere e i synth, in questo disco, sono una componente pervasiva: inserti stratificati, tappeti densi, un che di sognante che si intreccia ai consueti ritmi medio-veloci della band.
Questa sintesi più unica che rara ci viene quasi da chiamarla dream punk: perché tutto quello che si sogna qui è inversamente proporzionale alla direzione che il mondo sta prendendo. I mille mondi possibili sono quelli del mutualismo, della solidarietà, della condivisione. Sono quelli in cui le barriere cadono, i confini vengono cancellati, e l’amore splendido, tragico e pieno si manifesta nella sua forma più pura: quella libertà che non può essere depauperata.
In questo disco, l’amore è quello per la vita vissuta senza costrizioni, e ce lo urlano in Disertare, un inno antimilitarista diretto, senza fronzoli e bello tirato. Una minaccia ai benpensanti, con tutto il peso di uno statement come “Tutti i vostri figli saranno come noi” che troviamo invece nel pezzo La strada.
Bentornati, IntoTheBaobab. Siete uno dei gruppi più amati da questa webzine, e non ne facciamo mistero. Dedichiamo con piacere questo spazio al vostro disco nel nostro mondo possibile.
Questo album è consigliato a chi ama davvero questo genere musicale e lo accoglie per quel mix di suono e messaggio. Non è per chi cerca solo la moda, né per chi vede il suono come un’ortodossia da non contaminare.
Davvero un bel disco da ascoltare.

The baobab itself is a massive tree. It sprouts and takes root in these thousand possible worlds. But this time, the Emilia-based band—born in Medicina but with members scattered around Bologna—has kept us waiting for far too long since the already beloved Verdi Acidi di Pensieri. Now, we find ourselves in front of a band that has clearly understood that punk’s uniqueness is not just a banner to wave around in words.
They embody it in the only way that bands born in the provinces know how: by not giving a single fuck about which intersections are "forbidden" when crafting a punk record. And that has always been what gives IntoTheBaobab their unmistakable personality- some find it hard to swallow, others find it impossible to forget.
If street punk makes its way through tracks like Occhio al Cranio - which even features Steno from Nabat - keeping a more straightforward punk attitude, songs like La Luna flirt fluidly and subtly with everything from New Wave to Goth to Synth Pop. Keyboards and synths are a pervasive presence on this album: layered textures, dense soundscapes, an almost dreamlike atmosphere woven into the band's usual mid-to-fast tempos.
This rare and unique blend almost makes me want to call it dream punk: because everything dreamed of here is inversely proportional to the direction the world is heading. These thousand possible worlds are built on mutual aid, solidarity, sharing. They are worlds where barriers fall, borders are erased, and love- splendid, tragic, and full - manifests in its purest form: the kind of freedom that can never be stripped away.
In this album, love is about living life without constraints, and IntoTheBaobab scream it at us in Disertare - a raw, straightforward, no-frills anti-militarist anthem. A direct threat to the self-righteous, carried in a statement as powerful as “All your children will be like us” in La Strada.

This record is for those who truly love this genre, for those who embrace its mix of sound and message. It is not for those who chase trends or see sound as an orthodoxy that cannot be challenged.
