Recensisco al volo questa demo inviatami da Olli, urlatore della band.
I Left In Ruins sono un gruppo relativamente giovane formati nell'estate del 2010 da membri di band ben rodate come The Consequence, Crop Circles e Congegno.
Esordiscono con un demo di 2 tracce distribuito al Fluff Fest dentro i saccheti della merda dei cani (cito letteralmente la bio del gruppo), dopodichè si sono spaccati la schiena live con band estere e nostrane e quest'estate hanno registrato il suddetto dischetto che vado a recensire.
Iniziamo con il fatto che la band si presenta come progetto nato per suonare Hardcore/Powerviolence moderno con influenze tamarre e un po' crust sulla scia di Ceremony e Trash talk posto che non conosco le band citate (ma rimedierò lo giuro)!
Mettendo il cd in play, il funereo intro di basso mi ha però ricordato le vecchie glorie bostoniane Siege, sopratutto perché dopo le pesanti note sludge c'è una fulminea ripartenza fasteggiante... Ma le sorprese non sono finite qui e se pensate a un mero clone dei succitati Siege vi sbagliate: nella seconda traccia tra velocità a rotta di collo, stacchi adrenalinici, assolini e riff dal vago sapore Hardcore'n'roll ci mostrano come protrebbe essere una versione oscura dei Vitamin-x.
Ascoltatevi poi "No Love", col suo arpeggio ipnotico ai limiti del doom che precede un vortice di violenza grind, con un testo antireligioso al massimo.
C'è anche un'ottima versione di "Superior"dei maestri della velocità bostoniani Dropdead (altro legame con i Siege?), la cover viene resa ottima sia nella registrazione e nell'esecuzione.
Insomma un ottimo gruppo randellone e veloce che non si nega però le sue parti lente e claustrofobiche ai limiti dello sludge, dove la voce disperata e urlatissima di Olli descrive scenari ossesionanti e scevri di ogni speranza (a chi interessa cantano in inglese).
Veniamo alle note dolenti...scherzo, nessuna nota dolente (a parte quelle che suonano i L.I.R.!) ma solo due pareri personali:
- Ragazzi, sinceramente vi preferisco quando andate stra veloce ,piuttosto che quando infilate qualche riff lento (per intenderci "Wait in Vain" è la mia preferita) e penso che continuando sulla strada dei riff particolari possiate fare la differenza tra i tanti gruppi che si cimentano nelle alte velocità sonore (anche se pezzi come "No Love" sono vere bombe)
- I testi in inglese sono fighi ma se aveste cantato in italiano sarei impazzito il doppio per voi (ma questione di gusti lo so ;)
- L'unica cosa che non mi è piaciuta per niente è la copertina secondo me avete bisogno di grafiche un pò più "moderne" e particolari, come il vostro suono suggerisce.
Grandi veramente, un demo come va fatto.

Here's the rewiew of this band sent by Olli, the screamer of the band.
Left In Ruins are a relatively young band formed in 2010 as a project with members from consolidated bands as the Consequence, Crop Cirlcles and Congegno and they started to spread a 2 tracks demo at the Fluff Fest (the band told me that they distribuited the cd inside the dog's shitbags), thant they made a lot of live set with italian and foreign band then they locked themselves in studio to record this demo.
The band present itself as a project born to play a modern Hardcore/Powerviolence with Crust influences on the vein of Ceremony and Trash Talk... too bad i don't really know who those 2 bands are so i can't tell if they are similiar but when i pushed the play botton and lugubrious bass intro started the first band that comes into my mind are the glorious Siege especially beacuse after the heavy sludge intro a flashing up-tempo part is ready to blast our ears.
But Ladies and Gentlemen is not over yet: if you're thinking to a clone of Siege listen to the second track that, between adrenalinics skank beat and some "Hardcore 'n' Roll"-like solo, can the listener thinks to what an obscure version of Vitamin-x.
Once agains surprize are not over and with thre "No Love" with an hypnotic doomish arpeggio introduce a grind violence vortex with antireligious lyrics.
There's also room enough for a cover of the boston's speedmasters Dropdead (another Siege realted thingh? ;) really good cover that the bands turn to they're style.
So a really awesome thrashing band that sometime introduces claustrophobic and slow parts that are really close to the sludge, where the convulsed screams of Olli describes grims scenarios without hope.
Now let's arrive to the bad part....(i'm jokin', no bad part just badass music by L.I.R. and some pesonal opinions):
- Ok guys, slow parts are cool but i prefer when you plays ultra-fast (my favourite one is Wait in vain) and i think that if you keep on writing fast songs with paricoulars parts (Like "No Love" for example) you can make the difference between some other ultra fast bands and you.
- English lyrics are cool, but if i will love to ear some song in italian by you and i will probably fall in love with it.
- The only thing that i really dont like is the artwork, i think that a band like yours needs more "modern"and special graphics.
A good demo with balls.
