Religio Mortis, dal latino la religione della morte (correggetemi se sbaglio il mio latino è un po' arrugginito).
Dietro questo inquietante nome si nasconde un trio siciliano (ai tempi della recensione che sto facendo erano però un duo più una drum machine) dedito a un black/thrash di una malsanità inquietante...
Prendete la rabbia oscura di Bathory di "The Return..." e unitela con i riff Thrashoni alla Possesed senza dimenticare la lezione dei primi Morbid Angel.
Certo sulle prime la drum machine potrebbe far storcere il naso ai puristi, ma dopo averci fatto l'orecchio non sembra più neanche una drum-machine.
Il punto di forza del gruppo è comunque rappresentato dalla varietà di riffs proposti:
si va da maligne cavalcate black a corpose sonorità thrash.
C'è anche spazio per un intro melodico ("I Morti e le Pietre") interamente cantato da una voce femminile, la brava Elena Carlino, che fa anche capolino sul finale della successiva track "Blood Of the Tyrants".
Di solito odio queste commistioni e le evito come la peste, ma in questo caso la canzone spacca e mi ricorda un po' i Celtic Frost di "Necromantical Screams" ovvero voce femminile che però non imbastardisce il contesto extreme metal.
Figo anche lo scream/growl del cantate Wehr, allucinato e malvagio quanto basta.
In definitiva una buona demo per appassionati dell'estremo.
Presto posterò anche i loro lavori più recenti che, a mio parere, sono ancora meglio essendo più uniformi e compatti nei suoni rispetto a questa demo in cui, forse, l'unica pecca sono i suoni un po deboli (ma se siete addentro al genere è una cosa che non noterete neanche).
A voler proprio trovare un difetto, posso dire che forse la durata è un po' troppo breve e gli intro sono troppi, ma sono facezie che, nel quadro generale, stanno al margine.

Religio Mortis, from latin "religion of the dead" (if i'm not wrong, beacuse my latin skills are a little weak).
This Thrash/Black trio (that at the time of this demo where a duo plus a drum-machine) the band is totally into the black\thrash stuff,the most obscure and occult as possible.
Imagine to take the blackned rage of Bathory "The Returns..." era plus Possesed style Thrash riff and the obscurity of prime era Morbid Angel and you have Religio Mortis,maybe the drum-machine an bother the most fundamentalist between the extreme metallers,but once you take confindence with the sound it doesn't sound like a drum machine.
The cool thng inside R.M. is that the riff are various,from various style but without sounding like a bad mixture there is even a intro with a femal vocals (by the skilled singer Elena Carlino) which sing also in the end of the track "Blood Of The Tyrants". I'm usually against the use of clean feaml vocals in extreme metal,but this time this element is well stucked in the song giving to it an obscure epic touch withouth losing the violent and obscure vibes,reminding me the Celtic Frost's "Necromantical Scream".
if i must find a defect is that the sounds are a little weak and the into are to many,but in the general picture are so little mistakes and if you're into this genre it will not bother you.Great band sooni will post new and better material.
