GREY SUMMER - Live your Life

Per il secondo compleanno del blog ecco a voi una recensione speciale.... Almeno per noi due, visto che questo disco ha accompagnato la nostra adolescenza e un fiorente periodo di concerti per la nostra putrida città/paesino. Si tratta dei Grey Summer, che per un po' di tempo hanno animato le serate nuoresi (intorno al 2002 e più o meno fino al 2008).

Registrarono due demo tra le quali questa che vi proponiamo “Live Your Life”, la seconda, senza dubbio la più riuscita e rappresentativa.

Ma cosa suonavano i Grey Summer? E' sempre stato difficile inquadrarli, ma chiaramente è un gruppo metal, nato in piena era Nu-metal; ma ognuno di loro aveva le proprie influenze: chi la passione per i Korn, chi per gli Slayer, chi per Joe Satriani, chi per Metallica. In questo mix infernale ci potevi trovare di tutto, dalle cavalcate puramente Thrash (Da Shit in you, Hate You, Hikikomori) a pezzi con strutture più moderne e articolate (Antihero) a ballate melodiche (No As Cumpresu, Grey Summer) e Balentia, ovvero il pezzo di punta di ogni loro live, quasi Heavy, cantato in sardo ed è una vera bomba. Ai concerti, insieme a i loro pezzi, ogni tanto sfoderavano cover di eccellenza tipo Black Magic degli Slayer o Master Of Puppets dei Metallica (fecero anche Whiplash al loro reunion show e gli ho ovviamente rubato il microfono!) il tutto degenerava spesso e volentieri in pogo diving e altre brutalità.

Questa demo è una figata. Sparatevela in cuffia, garantiamo noi.

For the second birthday of the blog, a demo that meant a lot for us, since it was the soundtrack of our early youth when in our shitty town was populated by bands (not just esecrables cover bands but real bands) and Grey Summer was one of the best bands around and for a few time they animated our grim town with concerts (around 2002 since 2008) and they recorded 2 demos and “Live your Life” is the best and the one with the most clear sound recording.

And so what Grey Summer where all about? It was difficult to stretch their sound in just one genre

but clearly it was a metal band, born in the Nu-Metal era, but everyone had their personal influece: who was an insane Korn fan, who was a Slayer worshiper, who loved Joe Satriani, who digged Metallica, and this maelstorm of influces it was easy to find very different type of songs in the same

CD...From the fast thrash based songs (Da shit in U, Hate you, Hikikomori) to the ballads (No as Cumpresu, Gray Summer) to the most modern oriented and structured song (Antihero) and Balentia, the main song (somekind of heavy-oriented song) that always raised hell in every single show, add to the whole things that beside of these original tunes the lives shows where filled with neckbreaking covers like Slayer's Black Magic or Masters Of Puppets (at their reunion show, i stole the mic in the middle of Whiplash cover!!!) everything was accompanied by mosh diving and other brutalities.
