Torna uno dei gruppi Cagliaritani che più apprezziamo: i Raw!
Capitanati dal buon Kambo sono i portabandiera dell'esagerazione, i flagelli del moralismo e gli alfieri di una fiera, sguaiata e irreprensibile estetica queer, ma non quella delle produzioni netflix o della visione internettiana da quattro soldi, loro eprimono quella più viscerale, cruda e colorata, figlia di una visione alla John Waters piuttosto che quella di un gruppo come i Dwarves!
Per questa occasione vediamo un lineup lievemente rimaneggiata: oltre a Kambo-voce, vediamo Elvio (chitarra) e Stefano (basso) (i die-hard thrashers dietro agli Abduction), Silvia (chitarra già negli Aspettando la Fine) e Daniele (Desert Hype, Charun,Haywire Desire) e Gypsy Rob (Moo Rays) che suona sempre la chitarra ma, stando al booklet, solo quando ha lo sbattimento di farlo.
Un disco che comincia con il mitico discorso del Lord Humungus e che ci fa presagire tetri scenari dove motociclisti cannibali si stagliano in città deserte.
E' la perfetta colonna sonora di questi tempi strani e l'ironia sui temi seri non manca, vedi titoli come I WISH YOU WERE QUEER, IF THE CATS ARE UNITED, WORMS WILL TEAR US APART, che strappano una risata, nascondono dei testi interessanti e che analizzano spesso i temi trattati con una ferocia e un polemismo che purtroppo non è sempre presente negli odierni testi punk.
Musicalmente abbiamo la solita miscela di punk e thrash che ogni tanto sconfina nel californiano e in EVERYTHING FADES ci sono additura degli echi dark-punk. Un pacchetto ben bilanciato, dove non manca nulla: ci sono velocità, violenza, cori e momenti meno aggressivi che sapranno stamparvisi bene in testa. Il termine di paragane più azzeccato sarebbero gli Zero Boys che jammano con gli Accused, e c'è anche una cover del cult-act giappone Stalin!
Due encomi vanno ad Elvio che ha registrato/mixato questa manata in faccia al V-studio e a Kismet Hubble, talentuosa fotografa sarda che dipinge benissimo l'immaginario blasfemo e deviato dei nostri con degli elaborati e significativi scatti, e ha pure curato il loro ultimo video.
Se non vi piacciono i RAW probabilmente siete A) Stonzi B) fasci C) moralisti. Fate voi insomma...
One of the Cagliari's bands we appreciate the most is back: Raw!
Led by the sado priest Kambo, Raw are the standard-bearers of exaggeration, the scourge of moralism and the carriers of a proud, snotty and irreproachable queer aesthetic, but not that kind of tame and polished netflix/tumblr aesthetic, but the more visceral, raw and colorful attutitude à la John Waters rather than that of a band like the Dwarves!
For this new record we see a slightly reworked lineup: Kambo (voice) teams up with the following scumbags Elvio (guitar) and Stefano (bass) (the die-hard thrashers behind Abduction), Silvia (guitar already in Aspettando la fine), Daniele (Desert Hype, Charun) and Gypsy Rob (Moo Rays) who always plays the guitar but according to the booklet only when he wants to.
A record that begins with the legendary speech of Lord Humungus and that foresee a gloomy scenario whit cannibal bikers prowling out the next victim in deserted cities, a perfect soundtrack of these strange times and the irony on serious issues is not lacking either, see titles like I I WISH YOU ARE QUEER, IF THE CATS ARE UNITED,WORMS WE TEARS US APART.
Musically we have the usual blend of punk and thrash that sometimes falls on Californian territories and in EVERYTHING FADES there are hints of dark-punk mood.
A well balanced package where nothing is missing: there is speed, violence, choruses and less aggressive moments that will be printed well in your head. The most appropriate term of comparison would be Zero Boys jamming with the Accused and for all the japcore nerds there is also a cover of the Japanese cult-act Stalin!
Two honorable mentions goes one to Elvio who recorded/mixed this awesome slab of vinyl at the V-studio and the second to Kismet Hubble, a talented Sardinian photographer who paints very well the blasphemous and deviant imagery of this bunch of depravates with an elaborate and meaningful photoshoot.
If you don't like RAWs you are probably A) an Asshole B) a nazi C) a moralist. Which side you are on?
