SKULLCRUSH - ARCHAIC TOWERS OF ANNIHILATION

Il death metal statunitense è certamente uno degli stili che più fa breccia nella mente della collettività quando si parla di heavy metal, e gli States rimangono una fucina instancabile per quanto riguarda il metallo della morte.
Non fanno eccezione gli Skullcrush di Phoenix Arizona che, dopo il sobrissimo demo dell'anno scorso "Visions of the Firestorm Eclipse", 21 minuti di pestaggio selvaggio con Conan il Barbaro in copertina, tornano sotto l'egidia della Raw Skull Records e della Redifining Darkness Records, evocando dagli abissi infernali una mezz'ora di maelstrom diabolico!
Chitarre a motosega belle zanzarose e molto lontane dai suoni puliti di molte band death odierne, con riff che fanno esattamente quello che il nome della band promette, non dimenticandosi però delle parti doomy che ricordano un po' band tipo Immolation o Cyanide. Qua e la c'è pure quale spunto melodico che matcha bene con la copertina in stile dark fantasy dei nostri, drumming bello dinamico ed old school, dove non ci sono solo blast beats a cascata, ma anche parti alla Celtic Frost e rimandi thrash. Anche la voce non è esattamente un growl, ma più un graffiato alla Repulsion.
Tirando le somme, tra sfuriate acide e rallentamenti asfitici ed oscuri, il gruppo porta a casa un bell'esordio solido e malvagio, influenzato da acts come Immolation, Incantation Sathanas e Bolt Thrower, che i death maniax mondiali non possono certamente ignorare.

When it comes to heavy metal, American death metal is certainly one of the sub-genres which most impressed the collectives, and the states remain a tireless powerhouse of the metal of death.
So Skullcrush from Phonenix Arizona are no exception, after the last year's demo "Visions of the firestorm eclipse," 21 minutes of savage beatings with Conan the Barbarian on the cover, they comes back under the banner of Raw Skull Records and Redifining Darkness Records, evoking from the infernal depths, an half hour of diabolical maelstrom!
The chainsaw buzzing guitars  and very far from the clean sounds of many novaday death bands, with ripping riffs that do exactly what the band name promises, without forgetting the doomy parts that resemble bands  like Immolation or Cyanide. There is room also for some melodic cues that matches well with the dark fantasy style cover art, beautiful and old school dinamic drummin,g where there are not only cascading blast beats, but also d-beats a-la  Celtic Frost and thrash references. Even the voice is not exactly a growl, but more a raspy scream like Repulsion.
In the end up between violent outbursts and asphyxical and obscure slowdowns, the group delivers a nice and solid  debut influenced by acts like Immolation, Incantation Sathanas and Bolt Thrower, that the worldwide death maniax  certainly can't ignore.
