Flamekeeper è il nome dietro il quale si cela Marco S. (Demonomancy, Devil's Mark Studio) e con il quale suona questo particolarissimo mix tra epic, black e heavy metal, che in parte si distacca dagli echi estremi della sua band di origine.
Il progetto nasce durante lo spostamento di Marco dall'Italia verso Stoccolma che, da bravo nomade e musicista, ha scritto la colonna sonora del suo personale esodo, sia liricamente (titoli come Nomads of The Underworld sono estremamente eloquenti), sia dal punto di vista del suono.
Ci sono diverse influenze black metal (anche qualche sano blast beat) che rimandano alla scena mediterranea, così come certi inserti melodici prettamente heavy, conditi da una voce poderosa e tuonante, che si lancia in ritornelli antemici, e talvolta melodici che ricordano le clean vocals di un certo Quorthon, fondendo epicità e sentimento dei quali questo EP è pregno.
I riferimenti sono molteplici: i Bathoryy di Blood Fire and Death, i Manilla Road di Voyager, i Venom di At War With Satan, e non ultimi ,i sottovalutatissimi Necromantia, che vengono tributati con una splendida cover del classico Ancient Pride, rielaborata in un epico pezzo heavy da cantare a pugno in aria sotto il palco.
Flamekeeper è un progetto che propone un modo di fare heavy ben radicato nell'old school, ma riformulato nelle sue intenzioni e suggestioni, sia con un suono ricco di sfaccettature, che nelle tematiche.
Troppi gruppi ci ripropongono un immaginario precotto di divinità nordiche che non gli appartengo. Qui, ancora una volta, la personalità vince.
Un plauso a Marco, che ha suonato qualunque strumento su questa registrazione e ne ha curato i suoni. Speriamo di sentire presto un full-lenght, e magari di poterlo vedere dal vivo con una line-up completa, perché a noi due questo disco è piaciuto davvero tanto!
Fuori in cd e vinile per la Invictus Records, etichetta di spessore, che tra i Thulsa Doom, i Demonomancy e questa release, sta dando più attenzione all'underground italiano di molte etichette nostrane.

Flamekeeper is the name behind which Marco S. (Demonomancy, Devil's Mark Studio) is hidden and in which he plays this very personal mix of epic, black and heavy metal, which is partly detached from the extreme sound of his original band.
The project was born during the relocation process of Marco from Italy to Stockholm, and as a good nomad and musician, he wrote the soundtrack of his personal exodus, both lyrically (titles like Nomads of The Underworld are extremely eloquent), and soundwise.
There are several black metal influences (even some good ol' blast beats), that refer to the Mediterranean scene as well as certain melodic inserts that are typically heavy, a soundscape shaken by a powerful and thunderous voice that delivers into anthemic and sometimes melodic refrains that remembers the clean vocals of a late Quorthon, a soulfull and epic vocal perfomance that sets aside techinique in favor of feeling.
There are many references from Bathory's Blood Fire and Death, Manilla Road's Voyager, Venom's at War with Satan and, last but not least, the greek cult band Necromantia, that are honored with an outstanding cover of the classic Ancient Pride, which is reworked in an epic piece of heavy metal to singalong with your fist to the air.
Flamekeeper is a project that proposes a way of doing heavy metal well rooted in the old school, but reformulating his intentions and suggestions, both with a richly faceted sound and with fresh thematic suggestions.
Too many bands propose a precooked mix of nordic divinities that don't belong to them, here again a band with personality wins.
A praise to Marco, who has played all the instruments on this recording and has taken care of the sounds.
We hope to hear a full-length soon and maybe to be able to see it live with a complete line-up, because we like very much this release.
Out on cd and vinyl for the Invictus Records, thick label that, with Thulsa Doom and Demonomancy, is giving more attention to the Italian underground of many italic labels.
